Plans to create one of the largest used-car showrooms in the world are afoot – and the new owners of the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, WeBuycars, have confirmed their plans to do so.
On Monday, July 19 management of the TicketPro Dome said they will be closing the doors to the multi-use entertainment space after 20 years. The news was met with disappointment and shared memories by social media users.
“It is with a heavy heart that RX Venue Management today announces that after 20 years of being the management company of South Africa’s largest multipurpose indoor arena, The Ticketpro Dome has now been sold by the owners, Sasol Pension Fund, to a third party which does not operate in the event space,” RX Venue Management wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.
WeBuyCars said it had bought the TicketPro Dome and plans to turn it into a huge car dealership.
The CEO of WeBuyCars, Faan van der Walt, told My Broadband that the Ticketpro Dome would allow them to increase their footprint in the Johannesburg area and give them the opportunity to leave a positive impact on the economy.
“We have always been proud of our roots, and this next step in our expansion plan demonstrates our commitment to the South African car market, which has significant growth potential,” said van der Walt.
The date for the new pre-loved car showroom has not yet been released but the company is confident that it will be a success.
According to them, the Dome was initially meant to be a car showroom but it was instead converted into an entertainment arena. WeBuyCars now has the opportunity to reimagine that dream and make it a reality. With the wide open space available inside the Dome, they will be able to house 1500 cars.
