Tlou Molele (pictured), a maths teacher of the Curro Northern Academy has been dismissed for saying “white mutations” should leave South Africa.
Molele so outraged civil rights watchdog AfriForum that they requested Curro Northern Acacemy to get rid of him in October. This has now happened.
Molele said on Facebook among other things that white people were “mutations that should leave the country”. Following these remarks, AfriForum wrote a formal letter to the school in which the organisation demanded his dismissal.
AfriForum is of the opinion that Molele is not fit to teach children as he incites racism and sets a bad example to learners.
“The decision by the Human Rights Commission (HRC) that Molele only has to attend an anti-racism workshop and present a free maths class for grade 10 learners as part of his sentence is shameless and completely inappropriate. It is heart-warming, however, that the school acted fairly and took a stand that no form of racism would be tolerated,” says Monique Taute, AfriForum’s National Campaign Coordinator.
Taute also says that all forms of racism should be condemned to the same extent.
“The double standards maintained in South Africa and by the HRC in matters such as racism and incitement are shocking. White racism is condemned from all sides, also by AfriForum. It seems, however, that many opinion leaders and organisation who are fiercely against white racism remain silent on the matter when black people make themselves guilty of the same behaviour.”
