Why did they have to spend R3 million to get Dewani to SA?

How can it ever be justified to spend R3million of tax payers' money in order to bring a murder suspect to South Africa. Why rent a chartered private Gulfstream jet to fly Shrien Dewani to South Africa and treat him like a celeb if a passenger flight would have been more than efficient.

Why did they have to spend R3 million to get Dewani to SA?

Celeb or accused?

The Justice Department justifies this by saying it was “in the interest of justice” because his “peculiar medical condition needed to be monitored and the situation [on] a commercial flight had the potential to compromise it and that would have [had] adverse effects on the pending medical examination in a bid to get him to recover”. Justice spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said. Dewani is suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Dewani was accompanied by a medical doctor, a nurse, and SA Police Service and Interpol officers.
After his first appearance in a Cape Town court Dewani was taken to a psychiatric ward at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital. He claims to be suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome. If his condition does not improve in 18 months, he could be returned to the UK. We hope not in a private jet again…
The case was postponed to May12.
Dewani played every trick in the book to prevent extradition to A to stand trial convincing the UK courts more than 3 years that he suffered from post-traumatic stress and other mental illnesses. He lost his final appeal last month.
He claims he and Anni were kidnapped at gunpoint as they drove through Gugulethu in Cape Town in a taxi in November 2010. The couple had been on honeymoon in the country. Dewani was released unharmed while his wife’s body was found in the abandoned car the next day. She had been shot dead.
Xolile Mngeni was convicted of the murder and jailed for life. Prosecutors alleged Dewani hired him to kill his wife. Two other accomplices are also serving jail terms in connection with the crimes. Dewani denies all charges.
