When the Cape Times called outgoing Oudtshoorn ANC mayor Gordon April to ask about the Democratic Alliance’s win in the recent by-election in the Klein Karoo, he said: “I can’t hear anything, the wind is blowing.” He repeated this while someone laughed in the background. There was no wind blowing in Oudtshoorn at the time but by now it is hopefully picking up to blow him out of town.
The ANC could only win 44 percent of the vote which should come as a great boost preparing for next year’s general election.
The DA’s provincial leader Ivan Meyer said by voting the DA into power, the people of Oudtshoorn had “rejected corruption”.
ANC provincial secretary Songezo Mjongile said the loss was a setback for the party. Good!
