Condolences are pouring in for 28 people on board a Russian Antonov An-26 airplane which is reported to have crashed into the sea on Tuesday, 6 July.
According to reports from Reuters, the plane was en route from regional capital Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Palana, a village in northern Kamchatka, when it lost contact with air traffic control.
The plane was preparing to land when it crashed into the sea. There were 22 passengers and six crew members on board, including Village mayor Olga Mokhireva, Russia’s emergencies ministry said.
A search and rescue operation was immediately set into motion, and several ships on the route are headed for the wreckage to assist. A probe into the incident has also been launched.
It is believed that the plane belonged to a company called Kamchatka Aviation Enterprise.
