The DA’s leader Mmusi Maimane says he can prove that Zuma lied lied to Parliament during a sitting of its Upper House, the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), when questioned about the process followed in the Public Protector’s State Capture investigation.
“On 25 October this year, in an oral question session, President Zuma was asked about his reasoning in his attempts to interdict the Public Protector’s State of Capture Report. He replied by saying ‘I interdicted it because she was going to issue a report having not talked to me or asked me questions.’ This is an unrepentant lie by President Zuma. Attached to the Public Protector’s report is an 89-page manuscript entitled ‘Hearing between the Public Protector South Africa & President Zuma’ – dated 6 October 2016 – which records word for word the question session between the President and the Public Protector.
This is proof that Zuma misled Parliament and in so doing he has contravened the Executive Ethics Code. Section 2.3 (a) of the Executives Ethics Code states that “Members of the Executive may not wilfully mislead the legislature to which they are accountable”.
This revelation adds to the growing list of transgressions by Zuma. The DA has now asked the Speaker of Parliament, Baleka Mbete, to formally communicate that the Motion of No Confidence debate will go ahead on 10 November 2016.
Maimene also says South Africans should not allow the ANC to pull the wool over the eyes with respect of a so-called ‘investigation’ that the ruling party conducted. “Luthuli House further attempts to paint President Zuma’s campaign of State Capture and the consequences thereof as an internal matter that only affects the ANC. President Zuma’s behaviour has negatively affected the people of South Africa, undermined the State and paralysed key agencies of the State – not just the ANC… The ANC’s statement is not worth the paper it is written on, and should therefore be rejected and treated with the contempt it deserves.”
He says the ANC has lost touch with the people of South Africa and will never self-correct. The once glorious and respected liberation organisation of Pixley ka Isaka Seme, Oliver Tambo and Nelson Mandela has become an organised criminal syndicate, with Jacob Zuma as the don.
