You can count on Nando’s to address the elephant in the room – or in this case – the lack thereof. Nando’s has successfully managed to make a mockery of one of South Africa’s biggest fake stories of the year – the missing decuplets. Evidence of the babies being born are still non-existent and they are yet to make an appearance – even though the story was covered in depth by a media house.
On June 8, The Pretoria News led with a breaking news story that 10 babies were born to Gosiame Thamara Sithole and husband Teboho Tsotetsi in Gauteng. They were dubbed ‘The. Tembisa Ten’.
The Gauteng Health Department poked holes in the story when they released a statement saying they have looked far and wide, and no private nor public hospitals in Gauteng have any record of decuplets being born.
It later came to light that the couple were not married, and that Tsotetsi was married to someone else. As the story unravelled further the father admitted he had never seen the babies yet and was unsure if they were born at all. He apologised to the public and said he was misled.
Sithole was examined by a doctor and it was confirmed that she had not given birth in the timeframe that she claimed the decuplets were born.
Aside from assumptions of big political cover-ups and conspiracy theories, the decuplets have still not been found. And that fact has never stopped Nando’s before…
