Exploring the Kruger from dawn to dusk

You could smell the carrion before you saw it. It filled your nostrils and engulfed your senses. The lions, exhausted from the hunt, had gorged themselves to satisfaction. They would spend the remainder of the day lying in the carcass as you would in a lover's arms. The vultures swooped in, testing the practice of the lions. They lazily lifted their heads, but having eaten to the full, were uninterested in the vulture's persistence.

Exploring the Kruger from dawn to dusk

Sights such as these keep you longing for more adventure! There is nothing like the expectation that drives you down one more dirt road. Or the excitement when you turn the corner and spot cars viewing that animal you have been searching for!

All year round you are guaranteed sighting of wild animals in their natural habitats, providing you with a glimpse of what life was once like on the African plains. There are numerous camps run by the National Parks Board, offering accommodation to suit everyone’s needs – from luxury tented camps to basic rondavels or campsites with communal kitchens and bathrooms.

You will spend your days exploring the savannah, with its varied vegetation and extensive rivers. Animals are plentiful, whether you choose to search them out on the road or park at a watering hole and wait for them to find you, while being lulled by the call of a fish eagle.

At dusk the smell of a potato bush will welcome you back to the rest camp, where you will reminisce about the day’s sighting while sipping your evening drink. The changing light reflects off the water, as the colours change from deep blue to frosty pink in the evening sky. A wondrous sense of satisfaction settles over you as a false sense of calm sets upon the African plain. As the shadows grow longer, the night sounds begin, awakening your senses!

The nocturnals surface and the bush is once again alive with activity. Your excitement will surge when you hear the first lion announce his arrival or spot the hyena’s shadow lurking near the camp fence. At some point in the early hours of the morning, your dreams will be awakened by the call of the wild. As you drift back to sleep, you will be planning your route for the dawning day.
