Their aim is to discover the world’s most popular – and beautiful – destinations through implemented a global vote for some of nature’s most popular manifestations.
This campaign is a follow on from the New7Wonders campaign, which ran a year ago, and focused on manmade examples rather than those built by Nature. “It seems the people of South Africa are not yet aware of the New7Wonders campaign”, says Tia Viering, the
campaign’s Head of communications. Cape Town is ranked 78th, the Kruger Park 134th, Table mountain at 228th and the Vredefort crater at a nominal 396th.
Viering goes on to say that there has been massive support from countries such as Brazil, Argentina, the Phillipines, Mexico, India and Greece. She says it seems those who are in the know about the campaign are only too happy to take part. Nominations will run until December 31 2008, and the highest ranked will form a ‘top 21’ that will be put to popular vote.
