He scooped Record of the Year for a track off Undisputed, entitled Umlilo. SA PROMO was on the button as we featured this music video on our site on Saturday, ahead of the awards as we’d heard that he was hotly tipped!
Other big winners on the night included The Parlotones who walked away with Best Rock Album: English for their third CD, Stardust Galaxies. They also claimed Best Technical & Video for their second single Push me to the floor which they also performed on the night, together with Louise Carver.
The show was indeed a spectacular of SA muso personalities and some great award presenters – including the District 9 star Wikus van der Merwe who did an external video link-up cameo, and was on a mission to present his Afrikaans category alongside Charlize Theron who he tracked down from SA to LA in a hilarious spoof comedy sketch!
The 16th annual South African Music Awards ceremony was held at Sun City on Saturday 17 April and broadcast on SABC 1 on Saturday evening!
