Death and taxes: Malema learns the lesson

SA Afrikaans Sunday paper Rapport reports that disgraced former ANC Youth League president Julius Malema is at the point of bankruptcy following a scrap with the South Africa Revenue Service (SARS) over around R16m in outstanding taxes. In the process the suave dresser has started bemoaning his position telling the City Press newspaper that his former friends and partners have forsaken him.

In an interview with the Sunday paper, Malema told how he was being avoided as if he had leprosy by people who had been his friends until recently. It is alleged that a few of Malema’s former business partners have turned against him. Some would even become state witnesses in a criminal case of racketeering, money laundering and corruption against Malema. He is being accused of using his political influence to make business deals.

Rapport says Malema told them he is prepared to pay R4m in outstanding taxes. The taxman is demanding R16m. Watch this space…
