Parow, who performed in front of 5,000 enthusiastic Saffas at the Clapham Grand in July on invitation of SA PROMO, said mainstream Afrikaans artists are judgmental and viewed him as ‘the anti-Christ’ merely because there were harsh words in his lyrics. On his Twitter page Parow said the reversal of his invitation by Huisgenoot was ‘fokken’ laughable. The so-called Afrikaans ‘stars’, he said are allowed to molest children and cause various forms of other ‘k*k’, but the moment he uses a few swear words, he is considered evil.
He was reacting to rumours that Afrikaans love songstress Juanita du Plessis told Skouspel organisers that she felt uncomfortable to appear on stage along with Parow. He described Du Plessis as a ‘d**s’, but later apologised.
Huisgenoot publisher Willem Breytenbach denied the invite was reversed because of other artists’ demands. He claims it was done because Parow was double-booked. “Although we initially invited Jack Parow, we were forced to reverse the invite when we realised he was already booked to perform at Aardklop (an Afrikaans music festival held in Potchefstroom in the North West Province),” Breytenbach said in a statement.
Skouspel takes place from 1-11 October at Sun City and is attended by thousands of Afrikaans music supporters. Follow the fight on the Facebook Page ‘Let Jack Parow sing at Skouspel’.
