A copy of her claim released by the Afrikaans newspaper Beeld, Mrs Zuma claims on her claim form: “On 15/12/12 I last saw my Clarins cosmetic (bag) containing the stolen jewellery inside my burnt orange Cellini Microlite suitcase @ the hotel when packing & getting ready to leave for the airport (in Nelspruit). We arrived at the airport & the luggage (was) handled by my supports team (sic). On arrival in Bloem the luggage was handled by my protectors. When getting ready for the dinner, I noticed that the creme (sic) Clarins cosmetic bag was missing from the suitcase.”
The reason provided for the claim was listed as “stolen jewellery”.
This all allegedly happened on 15 December last year when Madiba-Zuma flew from Mbombela to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg before driving to Bloemfontein to support her husband at the ANC’s Mangaung elective conference.
Rodger Foster, head of SA Airlink rejected her claim after available CCTV footage showed her luggage had not been tampered with. He also said employees had passed polygraph tests.
Mrs Zuma (No. 5) said she had instructed her lawyers to consider her legal position.
