Before winter settles in properly in South Africa, you better get your Gluehwein recipe ready. Even though it is a German recipe, Gluehwein makes you glow from the inside out – and is perfect for those extra chilly South African nights.
Ingredients
- ¾ cup water
- ¾ cup white sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 orange
- 10 whole cloves
- 1 bottle red wine
Method
On a high heat, bring the water, sugar and cinnamon stick to the boil. Reduce the heat and let the ingredients simmer for 10 minutes. Halve the orange and place one half of the juice into the simmering water. Poke the cloves into the peel of the other half and place in the water too. Keep it on a slow boil for another half an hour or until it turns into a syrup. Add the wine and remove from the stove. Remove the orange with the cloves, and pour into mugs. Serve hot!
