After returning from the opening parties in Ibiza, it takes a lot to impress ex-Ibizan guests, yet this event was an impressive combination of international artists, live vocals, guitar, DJ duo’s, stage dancers, AV effects and some of SA’s biggest names, the likes of Lady Lea, Flash Republic, Derek the Bandit, Erica Elle, Nelson, Toby Allen, Little Leigh, Sleazy G and so much more…
Not many promoters in the South African scene manage to pull Saffas North of the river, yet on this Saturday night, I was inspired by DIRTYdubbin’s ability to pull well over 1,000 true South African supporters to Scala in Kings Cross for ‘The biggest South African reunion’ – and all without a complaint to be heard.
From start to finish, it was an awesome night. The staff, the promoters, the DJ’s and the guests, all made it a proudly South African event, while at the same time a production of international standards! First off, Scala is a really impressive venue, with three separate dance floors and a glass VIP room overlooking the main stage, yet when you add an amazing stage set up with a top of the range sound system, colour lasers beaming down from the ceiling and a full AV projection screen behind the DJ’s, you’re guaranteed to make an impression and a connection with your crowd!
With events of this nature taking place, it just shows the true potential of a handful of South Africans abroad who, firstly, take on board the international influence we’re all exposed to, in both life and business, and secondly, keep true to their South African roots (a challenging combination to achieve). An event like this with so many old faces from back home and true South African legends on stage, fixed me up with my well needed dose of SA to keep me going till my next trip home for Christmas!
Hats off to the DIRTYdubbin crew and all the awesome performers that flew out to be a part of this event and also to every one of the people that travelled across London to show their support!
