As murder accused H2O owner David Forbes told a court he was acting in self-defence when he shot and killed a 23-year old, it emerged that the victim was out on bail in a murder case. Police also testified that they found four knives – one of them with bloodstains – in the victim’s car.
Lawyers arguing in the Cape Town Magistrates Court why Forbes (48) should be grated bail, said Forbes was acting in self-defence when he shot Toufiq Joseph at a fuel station in Gardens at the weekend. He pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.
Eyewitness News reports emotions ran high outside the court as Joseph’s friends and family protested with placards reading ‘No Bail for murderers’ and ‘Justice for Toufiq Joseph’.
Joseph was out on bail on a murder charge when he was shot in his black Golf GTI. The investigating officer has already testified that four knives, including one with bloodstains, was found in Joseph’s Forbes’s defence team says he has played open-cards with the court and has no propensity to undermine authority.
He will be back in court on Wednesday for the outcome of his bail application. The application was not opposed by the State.
