The elusive Fourways hippopotamus has finally been caught after months of evading capture – and will be re-homed far away from the city.
News of a hippo roaming Fourways, a residential area in Gauteng, first broke in December 2020 when the Agriculture Department cautioned residents to stay away from the animal.
The hippo was also spotted near Chartwell and officials tried to track it with no luck. They warned locals not to feed or interact with the hippo to discourage it from staying in the area.
After no sign of the ambitious hippo for many months, it was captured over the weekend while roaming the grounds of the very plush Steyn City. Now that’s what you call a talented animal – imagine being that big and still managing to dodge humans for 8 months?
It will be relocated far from the city to keep it safe.
