Kafe Karahi (Wimbledon, London)

Three years ago I discovered a little gem. Like many, I must’ve passed it a million times oblivious to what treasure lay within. The place is Kafe Karahi, and the substance of my addiction, bunny chows!

Kafe Karahi (Wimbledon, London)

Being a Durbanite, a bunny chow is quite literally the Holy Grail of any curry spot in SA. Soft, fluffy hollowed out bread loaves filled with deliciously mouth watering full flavoured curry. Each time you tear a piece of bread from the top, dunk it into the curry and shove it in your mouth like a savage, it sends your taste buds on such a rollercoaster ride they’d think they’re at Thorpe Park!

Kafe Karahi is perfectly situated between The Walkabout and Wimbledon Cabs on Wimbledon Broadway. The evening event sequence is simple – jol on the broadway, grab a bunny, jump into a cab and get home while it’s still hot!

The guys behind the counter are super friendly okes and the bunnies themselves are amazing, made to absolute perfection, and only costing about five bucks! There’s a wide range of curries to choose from, for the girls not wishing to scorch their palettes, a very mild chicken tikka masala, and for the guys looking for a bit of a forehead sweat, a lamb curry as hot as you please. And for those who think they’re bulletproof, ask my main man, Umair, to mix in a bit of his mashed green chilli mix from under the counter.

As Leon Schuster once said ‘It’s like an angel whipping on your tongue’, although this angel clips a 2,000 volt power supply to your tongue at the same time! You might also want to check out the rest of the menu, because their samoosas amongst other things, are awesome!
