Get ready for darkness, Eskom announced Stage 1 load shedding 20 minutes before it is about to start on Wednesday, 26 May The troubled power utility forewarned South Africans on Monday that power cuts are highly possible due to the breakdown of multiple generation units – and the strain on the supply because of it.
In a Tweet on Wednesday, they said: “Regrettably, Eskom will implement Stage 1 loadshedding starting at 17:00 this afternoon until 22:00 tonight. This loadshedding is required as a result of a shortage in generation capacity due to breakdown and delays in returning generator units to service.
“This has resulted in the unplanned unavailability of 14 719MW of capacity. A further 2220MV is unavailable due to planned maintenance.”
Eskom says their teams are working to return more generators to service as soon as possible. But if they are not successful, South Africans can expect more load shedding during the week.
