The Saturday Citizen reported that Ben Rootman, family spokesperson, confirmed to them that she was showing signs of improvement.
“She is showing movement on both sides of her body, emotion and recognising close family on family photographs,” he was quoted as saying.
16 Year old Marli van Breda survived an attack on her family in Stellenbosch during which her parents and brother were killed. She and her brother, 20 year-old Henri van Breda, are the only survivors. Her brother Henri was said to have only minor injuries following the attack.
Marli on the other hand was critically injured, an axe wound to the head and her jugular vein had been severed. She remains in hospital and are not allowed any visitors, not even family. She has however been moved from intensive care into her own room and Mr Rootman did not confirm nor deny whether or not she sustained brain damage.
