NSFAS student, who spent over 800k within a time span of two months has been found guilty of theft. According to Sowetan Live, Sibongile Mani was a student leader, an activist as well as a secretary of a student organization.

Currently, her trial is postponed until March due to the exams taking place soon.

NSFAS student spends 20 000 in one day

A few years ago, NSFAS had erroneously given the above-mentioned student, 14 million rands. Instead of reporting this error, the student had spent 20 000 rands on the same day.

In court, it was clarified that the NSFAS student could have unknowingly spent money that didn’t belong to her. Since she was a secretary at a student organization means that she would have known how much the stipend would be.

It has also been brought to light that the 31-year-old has spent the money in three different cities. The money spent includes things spent on furniture, clothing as well as alcohol. It was on this grounds that the Judge found her guilty of theft.

Currently, Sibongile Mani is currently out on bail until her court case continues in March. She has spent over 800 000k within two months and some are saying that she should be granted an opportunity to complete her Accounting degree so that she may be able to pay this money back.
